Along with guerilla knitting I can often be found making other bits and bobs. Here’s a heart brooch I created.

Want to make your very own heart for you to proudly wear on your sleeve (or lapel)?
Knitted Heart Pattern.
You will need:
• 2.75 mm needles (or size needed for yarn weight)
• any red wool (– I used DK weight)
• beads, buttons, felt and lace (optional)
• brooch back or safety pin
Cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: M1, M1 = 4 sts
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: M1, K to last st, M1
Row 4: Purl
Repeat rows 3 and 4, 3 more times = 12 sts.
Row 5: K6 sts, turn (leave the other 6 sts to be worked on later).
Row 6: Purl 6, turn
Row 7: K2 tog, K4, turn
Row 8: Purl 5, turn
Row 9: K2 tog, K1, K2 tog, turn
Row 10: cast off these 3 sts as to purl
Go back to the 6 sts you left earlier and:
Row 11: K6 sts
Row 12: Purl
Row 13: K4, K2 tog
Row 14: Purl
Row 15: K2 tog, K1, K2 tog
Row 16: Cast off the last 3 sts as to purl.
Abbreviations:
M1 = make a stitch so that you have 2 where you had 1! – (knit into the front and the back of the same stitch)
K2 tog = knit 2 stitches together
K4/K(number) = knit 4 stitches
Sts = stitches
Repeat all of the above so that you have 2 hearts.
Weave in all of the yarn ends, and stitch the 2 hearts together.
To finish off my brooch I then stitched vintage lace, seed beads and vintage buttons to the heart before finally stitching on a small felt circle to cover all of my stitching on the back and attaching a brooch pin (but you could use a safety pin).
Now all you have to do is pin your brooch to your favourite knitted jumper and sing love songs as you skip along the street.
